English Teacher Purpose:

The English Teacher, under the general supervision of the Headmaster, advises on and implements the English curriculum, teaching students in grades 9 through 12, and fostering a joy and love for the English language. The teacher should have the ability or openness to teach logic and rhetoric as part of the classical curriculum, helping students develop strong reasoning and communication skills. This position requires a passion for classical education and a commitment to cultivating both literary and intellectual virtues in students.

Responsibilities:

Program Development: Assist in determining the English program’s needs, goals, and objectives, and collaborate with administration in the development and ongoing revision of the English syllabus.
Instruction: Teach English to students in grades 9 through 12, ensuring they acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the subject while cultivating a love for the English language.
Assessment: Monitor and assess students’ progress to ensure their potential is recognized and developed, and identify and address any issues as needed.
Communication: Keep staff and parents informed of each student’s progress through the Academy’s assessment and reporting systems.
Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned or requested, including attending professional development sessions and faculty meetings.

Qualifications: 

Faithfulness to Catholic Teaching: Must be passionately Catholic and in full communion with the Magisterium of the Church, embracing and promoting the mission of Holy Angels Academy.
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in English, Classics, Education, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with a background in a different discipline must demonstrate mastery of the subject matter and the ability to effectively teach English.
Experience: Prior teaching experience is preferred, but not required.
Skills:
Ability to exercise discretion, sound judgment, and maintain confidentiality.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with students, fellow faculty/staff, and parents.
